Hi there,
Do you guys base a reseller's space and bandwidth usage on the TURE space and bandwidth used by all the accounts or do you base it on the imaginery space and bandwidth I invent in my hosting plans?
Thanks

Hi Mousie,
To put a simple answer to this question...We do not oversell our space or bandwidth and nor do resellers have this ability.
All reseller accounts come with the disk space and bandwidth listed.
Eg: If you have a reseller account with 5GB space, 20GB bandwidth, you cannot create an account with 10GB space and 200GB bandwidth.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact us.

Thank you.
Just so I got this right, are you saying that you are getting me to pay for the space and bandwdith I invent in my hosting packages, and the space and bandwidth all my domains actually use have nothing to do with it. Is this correct?
If so, then I'm not paying you to use actual space and bandwidth, I'm really paying you for imaginery limits I invent that may never actually ever be used? This seems very strange indeed.

Mousie,
I will clarify a little futher with an example.
Let's say you purchase our Bronze Reseller plan.
The specs allow for 4GB Storage and 15GB bandwidth.
This allowance is designed to spread across your entire account, meaning you can assign up to 4GB of disk space across your total accounts.
For instance, you can create 4 accounts of 1GB storage and 3.75GB of bandwidth each and that would be it. You would not be able to assign anything over and above that.
Or...you could create 2x1.2GB (Total 2.4GB used) accounts and one account of 1.2GB, thus using 3.6GB of your storage space.
Now if you then tried to create an account with 2GB storage, you simply could not do it as your reseller account would not have the resources available to do it.
Allowing this on your account would be overselling your account.
It's like having an 80GB hard drive in your computer and trying to have 100GB of data assigned out to for users to fill. You simply could not do it.
Have I made any sense?
Feel free to contact me if I have not.

Dale Evans

Hello Dale,
Thanks for explaining this.
Basing space and bandwidth on the imaginery space and bandwdith on the reseller's hosting plans has nothing to do with how much actual disk space is being actually used on your server, nor has it anything to do with how much actual bandwidth is being used by your server to service the reseller's domains.
I may very well be the odd one out here but I think its a much more ethical system to base usage on, well, actual usage, and not imaiginery limits made up in hosting packages that you well know very rarely actually used.
I must admit I can't see anything wrong with allowing resellers to use the space and bandwidth they have paid for by basing their usage on the true usage of all their accounts. Call me odd or strange. Just my 2 cents worth.
Bye

It's just a matter of terminology. The word "reseller" has become the industry standard term for someone who "hires" part of a server. Yes, they are paying for something they might not have necessarily sold if they are just starting out. If they have been in business for a while, they might have 2/3/4 reseller accounts and they're all full instead of the first one.
Think of a shopping centre. You don't pay rent based on your own turnover. Nor can the landlord partition off some of your floorspace and give it to someone else. You pay per square metre, and what you do with it is largely up to you.
What you're describing, and should probably be looking for, is an affiliate account so that if you just need a basic 100MB/1GB account for an existing customer then that's all you get (and you just receive a small commission on the sale instead of paying for your own shop).
If that doesn't make sense, one of us drank too much last night.
Gary

So does this mean that if you have a 160GB drive on a server you will only sell 160 x 1GB plans or whatever combination of storage space offered on your the plans you sell totals 160GB?

Well, your on the right track Angus...but of course you need to take into account the OS and any other server software installed (that isnt the clients)...but once you fill it, you either buy another server or fit another drive
Why sell/claim you provide what you don't have?
Of course we do allow for each client to expand their package, but we take all this into account when setting up the servers.
Anyway, let's not steer this off topic!
This promotion is now closed.

Yes, my bad too. I just wanted to make the point that "resellers" aren't necessarily people that are reselling "something" fixed like an affiliate/commission agent.
