I am looking for an Aussie based host where I can run a MS-sql2005 database.

I (and a few potential clients) need to be able to connect to it remotely using tcp/ip connection from my program.

The db is only small, ( less than 10 megs.). I tried using a shared account at discountasp dot net (their datacenter is in LosAngeles) but response times are just too slow.

Not sure if a shared hosting account would work, or I need some other form of account. Perhaps someone offers dedicated SQL hosting. I don't need the web site, just a MSSQL server that allows remote connection.

What might be avail?

Nope. Sorry. I recently moved off a statis IP with ADSL to Bigpond Cable broadband with dynamic IP. But the IP has now changed in over a month, despite frequent modem reboots.

Look like I will need to go the VPS route.

We offer pre-built 'VPS' templates with Windows Server 2008 Server and SQL Server 2008 Express and Web editions. There is very little difference from SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2008 so you should be able to run whatever you have on SQL 2008 without any issues.

Problem is I want access from any IP. This is to provide a demo database that potential clients can connect to with my demo program.

Net Logistics have unrestricted remote access to their SQL Server machines.

I'm not sure if they will sell you space without an account attached, so might be best to get in touch and see what they can do for you.

This is overkill. Again..

All you need is to find an Australian shared host that allows remote connections. The total cost should only come to $10 - $20 per month depending on which version and how much you need. Don't be talked into getting your own server, MSSQL license, hardware firewall..

If you want have admin access then get a Hyper-V with SQL Express as I initially suggested.
