Register at Hostess and then get out quick?

Hi

I see that Hostess.com.au is selling .com.au domains for $20.95.

I see this is an incredibly low price, but from what I have read on forums their support is crap.

I don't want to let the cat out of the bag or anything, and tell me if I am revealing some industry secret here and I will remove this, but what is stopping me registering .com.au domains at Hostess for $20.95 and then straight away transferring them to my reseller account at Netregistry where it doesn't cost anything to transfer .com.au domains to your reseller account?

I mean is there something in the rules saying I cant do this as it seems way too logical and easy to do.

Read their T&Cs, if it all looks doable, do it.

In short. It can not be done. As the auDA policies ban you from transfering from a company, to a reseller of that same provider. Remembering that NetRegistry owns Hostess. If you want cheaper domains go with another provider, such as Aust Domains. Although really, you should give Distribute IT a call, as they have some good rates on domain names. Then you won't even need to deal with NetRegistry.

On top of this, you can't transfer a domain within the first 6 months of initial registration.

Is it really worth all the trouble just to save a few dollars?!

Cheers,
Matt

I wasn't Aware that you couldn't transfer a domain in the first 6 months!

Is this for all registrars or just netregistry?

Is that price reliant on volume?

I may only register or reregister 5 - 7 a year.

OK sounds good. Is DistributeIT are a registrar or a reseller? its just that they aren't on the AUDA site as a registrar.

Ok I admit I havent read the AUDA rules but how about trasnferring from a reseller to its mother company? like from Hostess to Netregistry.

I have since been told that the AUDA website shows Netregistry, Hostess and PlanetDomain as registrars and not resellers as well.

http://www.auda.org.au/registrars/ac...ed-registrars/

So apparently it would be transferring from one registrar to another even though they are both owned by the same company.

Not sure how I would stand on that, although on another forum Brent Fenton from Netregistry has told me that Hostess is only a reseller?

Not sure who is confused here.

Is that a typo, or are you actually getting $24.95 from DistributeIT? I'm on $29.95

depends on when you first signup.

I get 23.95 for .com.au but gTLDs are dearer
