Dell 1855/1955 - Anyone have any?

Hey all,

I'm looking for some Dell 1855/1955 Blades for a client of ours. If anyone has any that they're wanting to sell please send me a PM and I'll get you in touch with them.

Gav,

Talk to IPTrading.

Dell have EOL'd the 1855/1955 blade chassis now so they ain't selling direct. We managed to source 2 full chassis with blades from IPTrading although they are getting rarer and rarer hence the reason why we actually went and bought 2 additional chassis just so we weren't forced into the new chassis series (yet ).

Does anyone find as soon as you start using a particular model of DELL machines in your fleet they shortly change it to something new non-compilable with your existing gear, making having spear gear pointless and it won't work with newer stuff you buy from them or is it just me?

Umm, depends.

The 1855's for instance were released about 3 years ago. They were replaced with the [backward compatible] 1955 series. Now the new M (?) series has a 5 year life cycle (according to their tech preview presentation anyways).

The SC* series is 'no lifecycle' hardware. 860's were the successors to 850's. Both of them had a 1.5-2yr lifecycle although not too much was backward compatible (mainly cause 860 mainly came about due to Dual Core CPUs).

2950's themselves are actually 1955's put into a 2RU case. Consequently, a lot of those parts are backward compatible too. The new R series servers are the same deal with the M series of blade. 2950's I believe have an EOL of Q1 2009.

Finally, laptop's have a 3 year life cycle. The D series is being phased out with the E series released a month (?) ago.

<jab> Maybe you just need to buy more kit Spirit </jab>
