Hey fellow WHT users.
Is it just me or has there been a MASSIVE increase of non AUS WHT Users on AUS-WHT sense the sell off?
Not that i have a problem I just don't see how it's any benefit to the AUS Version of WHT. I somehow don't see them getting AUS based services?
What are my fellow AUS WHT users thoughts ?

You will find there are a lot of tyre kickers which is only natural
Impossible to tell the effect until the novelty effect settles down
A lot will come and post offers for O/S hosting and whether that continues or not will depend on whether they find a market or not
Ok in reality now that inet have taken over the US section should be removed from here as it no longer has any relevance if this is to remain a purely Australian focussed forum - people can go to wht for that
Mind you I never followed why it was created in the first place ok I know why it was lol but didn't see its relevance
Cheers

To be quite honest Welsh I haven't taken alot of notice of the new registrations lately unless they post something, although since you mentioned it I had a peak at the latest one & they are from the US but at this stage it's hard to say if any new O/S rego's would be related to the sell off.

Although there are more offers for US based hosting in that section there are also offers for the UK and Europe so it's not just a US section and while it would be nice to just have an all Australian advertising section the O/S market is also relevant to a good percentage of Aus based providers on WHT-AU and it gives them the opportunity to advertise there O/S services. So in retrospect is does have a place on this forum.
Now my point above is in relation to Aus based providers offering their O/S services, if there is a massive influx of O/S based providers coming here offering their services then that will defeat the purpose of having the International section for Aus based providers to advertise and if it does happen then restrictions should be enforced that only Aus based providers can advertise on the board or the International section should be removed & as Angus has said they should go to WHT to advertise.
Didn't there used to be a rule that only Aus based providers could advertise? if so, what changed?
Cheers

Umm..
Wow, is this still going.. Look, overall people supported the idea of having a non-AU advertising section before iNET bought anything. Just cause they now own it doesn't make it any more or less relevent..
People should stop searching for reasons to peg on 'the sellout' and instead whinge about things that change for what they see as being 'for the worst'. So far, nothings changed although apparently there's a new design coming very soon so I myself might have to declare some disappointment at some stage.
Regardless, it's a storm in an empty teacup at the moment. Surely most people on this forum would understand that if they whinge about things before they change (ie. 'before people have a real problem') then the powers that be ain't going much attention when you actually might have a legitimate point.

I prefer having AUS and International sections.
Its easier for forum users to select the type/geo based hosting they need.

Re: Alot of new WHT users

Let me clarify things
This forum was originally intended for Australian based hosts only - by that I mean hosts with businesses registered/operating in / from Australia
It was essentially closed to anyone who did not meet the above criteria
I would like to point out the difference between an Australian based host who has servers outside Australia and sells hosting on them and a non Australian based business (see above) who offers hosting on servers outside Australia
Actually no I don't think I need to explain that and neither should I that the first type are the ones who should be encouraged to be members and the second lot should nick off to WHT or we will be bombarded - clear enough?
Unfortunately it appears there weren't enough Australian based hosts becoming members so the doors were opened prior to the sale and that was a shame but I can see how it was $$ driven
As I said before lets see how long this lasts as an independent forum before it becomes a sub forum of WHT - either way I don't expect it will be long before the ads on here are for hostgator etc which really have no place here but that's the reality
Unless of course the non australian advertisers realise they will essentially be wasting their time and $$ if their ads do get air time here - Aussies have shown they would far rather have local that foreign hosting in the same way Any aussie business who takes ads and has them broadcast over the "whole inet federation" will realise very quickly that when their ad appears somewhere with US viewers their dollars are quite simply being ****ed down the drain
Cheers
Angus

Hmmm, I didn't realise you created WHTAU Angus so exactly how would you know what it was 'originally intended for'.
Case in point though so since people evidently don't seem to be able to read:

It's just you.
We moderate every registration (email, location & IP). 99% come from Australian ISPs/networks, and still do to today. I think I have spotted two Us based users join up this week who also posted comments in the announcement thread on WHT-US.

Hmm...you're going way back to about 2003 there...
A random post from 2004 by an OS provider - http://www.webhostingtalk.com.au/f13...for-sale-1475/
From memory, in early 2005 I changed my signature on WHT-US to read "advertise your services to the Australian market" (words to that effect).

What about those AU providers who are not purely Australian focused?
E.g. http://www.webhostingtalk.com.au/f27...-servers-7983/
Hmmm....

Re: Alot of new WHT users

Must have confused myself
What I was trying to say was that Australian businesses providing non Australian based services is ok but but non Australian businesses should not be allowed to post in the Overseas section or it will be flooded with rubbish and quite frankly that is what WHT is for
In fact I am sure that's what I said but not going to read it again to check as that would be too easy lol
That thread is a great example actually - if someone wants to deal directly with a US business providing US based services then they can go to WHT
If they want to deal with an Australian business doing the same then they come here
Perfect - thanks for the link Gary
Cheers
Angus

How? You want to see only those with a "purely Australian focus" here, so those who want to provide US based services and those who are looking for them, should all go to WHT-US?
But then, you're implying that iNet should ban AU based providers from advertising on WHT-US (assuming it works both ways?), so how will that work?

Re: Alot of new WHT users

OK for the third time
US business offering US hosting - WHT
Aus business offering US hosting - WHT AU
Can I be any clearer?
I am saying I only want to see Australian businesses here yes
if you have a US businesses advertising us hosting here then what's the point as I said in the first place inet may just as well create an aussie section of wht and be done with it
There is no point in a WHT AU if it is open for people from Iceland to advertise hosting in Lapland and you knew that when you started it so I am a bit confused as to why you are now advocating something completely different so can you please explain how you think it should be here?
Who should be able to promote their services here?
A

Re: Alot of new WHT users

It is clear what you are saying Angus and I agree with you completely.
If WHT AU allows the provision for O/S providers to flood the place with their offers/services, then it will be open slather & if that's how it will be then there is no point having an AU based forum.
What Angus is saying - correct me if I am wrong - is keep them separate, WHT-AU for Aus based providers offering their services for both Aus & O/S
and WHT-US for O/S based providers offering purely O/S services.
Cheers
