COVE and ELS acquire JGK Computer Solutions
|
|
Hi everyone,
I just though I would share the news that COVE and ELS have jointly acquired JGK Computer Solutions.
For full details please see http://forums.cove.com.au/showthread.php?t=304
COVE has acquired all of the web hosting, VPS and domain name customers, while ELS has acquired the web design division, physical assets and business name, to be carried on a web design division of ELS.
Gav L has become a new team member at COVE as Operations Manager, and we're delighted to have him on board.

Umm, can you say, UCE ?
Seriously, it'd be fine if it WASN'T the new owner promoting it in the lounge.

I thought we were allowed to do that?
There used to be an "Announcements" forum but that seems to have vanished..

There wasn't enough call for a dedicated area, but newsworthy announcements (like an acquisition) are fine for here.

I don't see the problem with it being here? What gripe do you have?

My gripe really isn't to do with THIS announcement it's about the precedent that's being set.
Example:
I make a new host called 'Billybobs Hosting Co'. I want some promo, SO, using a loophole in this forum, I go and create another new brand (and pretend that they're 'resellers' of my own hosting). Then I pretend to 'acquire' them into my own company. NOW, I go to WHTAU and post "Hey, we just acquired this host".
Like I said, THIS announcement isn't so bad, it's just the precedent. I do note however that JGK contracted billing software to COVE and I'd assume there's some two way transfer of non-$ related components. Now, if people didn't know reps from both companies any better, people would be attacking JGK or COVE if this relationship turned out to be more than just a healthy swap of services.
READ READ: Cheyne & Gav, this really isn't aimed at you guys, main reason for the gripe is more a policy component of WHTAU. Congrats and good luck.
Stu

Stu,
I'm a little confused, and I think you may be as well.
ELS is who has the software agreement with COVE, not JGK-CS. Until now, we have had no business dealings with Gav from either company, he was just a personal friend of ours.
JGK-CS has been acquired in to both businesses, as it had a broad spread of services that it offered.

Was more trying to apply what I was 'trying to say' to the current situation. In some respects though your response is another example of what I was questioning. ANYBODY can have a 'personal friend' and (when abused, NOT applying it to THIS announcement) form a business trading under "Magical Host" then 'acquire' it and post a 'discussion' topic in the most relevant hosting forum in Australia.
I can't say this enough, this really doesn't have anything to do with the original announcement so I'm just gonna shh now to avoid sending this off topic further. I've made my point, that is all.
Stu

Reason: Companies should not be confused with business formation.
