Funny & Stupid Tech Support Calls
|
|
After reading http://www.webhostingtalk.com.au/f3/...m-server-7991/ it sparked a thought inside my head...
What's the funniest or stupidest tech support call you've had or made?
Like many others, we've had our fair share from clients entering their own names as usernames and claiming they have read their welcome email 3 times and yet not notice the bold title stating "Username" to client's internet not working at them blaming us
No particular funny or stupid stories spring to mind, but it still excites the interest to see what others have had
Open up the ticket archives all and may the humour begin!

A year or two ago a customer canceled their Bigpond account (which was in contract) and was hit with huge termination fees etc and calls me up the day after they canceled asking why she couldn't get to her website and how important it is to her blah blah blah after she called Bigpond and canceled her internet thinking the internet was moved to us...
That was a heated call

Haha Had a few, one to a mate, and one to me.(Working at a helpdesk for rmit).
1. Lady calls Complaining about how rmit internet isn't working, She then goes on to ask me if the blue ethernet cable needs to be plugged in, after just abusing me and for question how 'smart' she was(which i didn't :P).
2. Guy calls up saying he can't access something, So the tech says, can you please click on the start menu, Customer replies saying he doesn't no where it is, So the tech asks him to the bottom-right corner of the screen, so the customer physically moved the mouse to the bottom right corner of the screen.
interestingly enough both of these people where doing there masters for there subjects.

Lol!...thats great!
That reminds me of a similar situation come to think of it where I had to sit on a call for over an hour trying to explain the differences between transferring a clients website to us and transferring their ADSL.
The amount of times I said the works "internet", "broadband" and "website" in the one phone call almost made me sound like a parrot.
Some people just don't understand...Some people just don't understand...squawk!

Wasn't really a Support call but I got a call someone wanting to Colocated a Desktop case. Which at first sounded alright till I found out they wanted to put in a Thermaltek Armour which would take up at lease a third of a rack.
Got it changed to a Dedicated server pretty fast.

I would of accepted the colo...and just charged accordingly for the RU space it took up.
Mind you, I would of explained the differences in costs and options...but still said "Hey, if you want to colo that box, no worries, we've got no objections"

This one made me cringe.
Customer: My internet is broken. I can't do anything.
Tech: Have you tried rebooting your router?
Customer: No, I rebooted my computer and it's still broken.
Tech: Please try rebooting your router?
Customer: Won't that break the internet? Can you check if the internet is broken?
Oh dear...

Hehe,
I must admit that story was one passed onto me by our support department. I was thinking more along the lines of 'the internet has been turned on too long so we thought we'd turn it off so it could have a rest'.

Hahaha.
That's almost like one of my tickets the other day asking if our server was sleeping!
