which program do I need?

My client is after this program to do the following, it will be used to organise home poker games. The idea is to create a site where people can log in and create their own area where they can lock away details, keep mailing lists of people they want to invite to their game and allow invited people to log into their area to check details of the game.

I realise there are sites that do this already (einvite etc) but the client wants their own site.

does anyone know what sort of software i would need? I just am not sure what I would be looking for or what it would be called.

I guess another feature of this program would be that anyone who was looking for a game could leave their details and someone who needed players could contact them?

Cheers

Re: which program do I need?

There may be something like that floating around, try hotscripts, perhaps?

I would expect it's gonna be a start from scratch or build a module for an existing system type job.

I did have a look at hotscripts but I wouldnt know what sort of software to start looking for.

I searched for "invite" but got a lot of "invite a friends" scripts for sites. I am looking for the whole site solution.

Umm,

Is this legal in Australia (even businesses located in Australia)?

To me it could be easily abused.

Well, I havent gone into it too much but as far as the poker goes, as far as I know, and I have said that isnt much yet, I am not running the games, I am not charging for the games, I am not profiting in any way from the games, and as long as they are held in someones home, not in a public place, they are legal under those circumstances in most states and territories in Australia. Or so I believe.

The details will be securely kept and only seen by the people who get the invite so that limits the chances of having crashers etc. I am still looking into how it could be abused too.

Basically all I am doing is the same as someone who emails all his mates to tell them except they dont have to wait for a reply from him to find out the details. They can see all the details on the site.

Obviously I would look into it further to see what my downside would be, but if I cant find the program I wont have to bother lol.

Re: which program do I need?

You could use Joomla and a calendar/booking extension?

I just did a search and there is a Poker Tournament Extension for joomla. I couldn't find a price for it but it seemed to do everything you wanted.

"We created a custom Poker Tournament extension for Joomla which tracks game and individual player results. In the Joomla frontend, the component generates a Leaderboard, results by game, and individual point display integrated with Community Builder to provide interactive features for players. From the Joomla administrator panel, the site owner can update game results and produce reports on player attendance."

I have not used this and only just found it.

Hi GrYnGe

Thanks for that but it seems to be something that can be used by the people running tournaments to keep track of all the players and their stats etc.

Not exactly what I am after. I dont want to have any knowledge of who is playing or what they are doing, just letting someone email the people they want to invite and thats pretty much it.

Ah ok then re reading what you wrote. Google Calendars will allow you to do exactly what you said. Allow people into their own section and email events to people in that section etc..

Well, 'unlicensed' poker I think has some grey rules about it.

That's why I asked.

Re: which program do I need?

Playing poker and organising poker games isn't illegal in Australia. Playing Poker for money is unless at a licensed venue.
