Best Place to get .com.au Domain Name + Hosting
|
|
Hi everyone,
I just build a website for my local soccer club for a school project. The club would like me to help them get it online now.. The website is all in html, I'm only a beginner.. Don't need any special features, just a basic host and a .com.au domain name..
Was wondering if I could get the domain name and host from the same company to simplify things. I would also like to keep it as cheap as possible, for the sake of the club.
The website is only 2.91MB with images..
Where's the best place to get a .com.au domain name and hosting for it for a reasonable price? I will be wanting to upload all the files to the website, can I use FileZilla for this?..
Also, I want it to be very simple, as the soccer club secretary isn't as computer smart as me (and I'm not that great with websites.)
Thank you
Please don't spam my thread, or advertise offers irrelevant to my situation. I am just trying to help out my local club here.

Hi jonno92,
You've come to the right place for web hosting and domain names
Unfortunately, no providers can make any offers to you at this stage until your thread is moved into the requests section. As soon as it has been moved, you'll be inundated with great offers
Cheers,
Joel

should I be asking for the best place to get it, or ask for offers from people on this forum?..
How do I get the forum moved if I should ask for offers?..

The thread will more than likely be moved by one of the moderators to the appropriate section. Just wait for that to happen, and then you'll start receiving some good offers.

Hi Jonno,
Based on my own opinions, I have answered your questions below. I hope my answers are helpful.

Sure, you could get both domain and hosting with the same company without any problems. Some people may consider it silly to "place all your eggs in one basket", but in other cases, it's not such a bad idea. Centralisation can make life alot easier, especially for clubs. At the end of the day, it's up to you and it's whatever works easiest for you/your club.

Well, I don't think you can steer too much further than right here on WHT-AU. There are a large number of hosting providers on this forum that would be more than happy to assist you and your club with your hosting requirements. Simply work yourself up a list of potential providers, get in touch with them and provide your requirements and I'm sure you'll get some responses worth considering, which may include a discount of some form, being a club (non-profit organisation). It may even be worthwhile posting your requirements in the requests section to help get some feedback and some quotes.

No problems. I cannot think of any provider here that cannot assist you with that. As Filezilla is an FTP client and all providers provide FTP access, Filezilla will work nicely (on the proviso that you configure all your FTP settings as described by your chosen provider)
I hope this information has been helpful, but by all means ask away if you require any more advise and I'm sure there will be more helpful responses for you.
Cheers,

Thanks alot, Dale.
I guess I could buy the domain and host from different locations, but by getting them from the same place, it simplifies it for the club.. I don't want to confuse them..
I've got some PM's.. I'll read them now

Just to let everyone know, the best offer I've received so far is $70/yr for the domain name and web hosting.

Hi there
As it is a club you should be able to get a .org.au domain cheaper than a .com.au
As far as hosting goes we would be happy to take you on board as part of our l,ong established Community Hosting scheme and you can find details here
www.webhostsaustralia.com.au/community.html
Cheers and let me know if you have any queries
Angus
