I have spoken to Equinix a number of times with regards to their fire supression, and every time they just promise "gas will come real soon now...".

I'm not quite sure what would indicate I am an ex-employee, but no, that is not the case.

I'm not bashing Equinix, simply pointing out a shortcoming. There are certainly things that it does better than Global Switch.

At this point I would have to agree with VOXO that it is simply not viable for Equinix (EQ) to put gas in. The reasoning:

1. You have a DATA CENTER in one single floor plan area that houses say 400 cabinets.

2. Gas for the area has to be 1.3 x the volume of the room to be 100% effective (Allowing for leakage ETC). They have extremely high ceilings at EQ so that is one big area to cover.

3. You are already full and very profitable... Why would you bother? Everyone has signed up knowing it was water only. So the Gas function cannot bring you any more money as you are full....

Now... Part 2. If they do not put a Gas System in Stage 2 which is currently under construction then it is clear that it is a monetary based decision on that fact that clients will still just come of the back of the name.

I am looking at building a new POP in Equinix, and the lack of FM200 is a very serious concern. I don't think our auditors or customers would be impressed to discover that Equinix is using water to put out fires in a space full of electrical equipment!

Equinix is out of power..

So stay away as when they get more i want it

As for regards to having a POP there, perhaps go ask what some of the other hosts thoughts are regarding this.

Around the corner... when you have a look at it it looks like around the corner is mid 2009 even though it does have a december deadline

Around a few corners and maybe a highway?

However when you look at it this way, there is going to be a greater supply of power for a greater demmand. Either way however far off it is, I'm looking forward to it.
