Fax Spam

It looks like the old "Fax Spam" that was popular back in the early nineties has reared it's ugly head again.

These !@#$%^&*s use your toner and your paper to advertise their shonky wares.

I'm getting more and more of these. Today I got some crap from http://www.domainnames.com.au about some el-cheapo deal they're trying to sucker people into.

The faxes have a statement at the bottom that says "To remove your number visit http://www.donotfax.com.au.

I did this weeks ago, but so far it's had no effect.

In any case, why should I have to unsubscribe from something that I've never subscribed to in the first place.

Is anybody else receiving these faxes?

Re: Fax Spam

Yep - I stopped advertising my real PSTN fax number years ago.

I use a fax to email service to receive faxes via email. If someone sends us a spam fax we just delete it. Cost is next to nothing when compared to giving out your real fax number...

I'm getting fax offers for spring water to be delivered at the moment

It'd cost me 10c to send them 100 pages of black text to domainnames.com.au or the spring water mob

Re: Fax Spam

Yes, I've removed my fax number from the web site.

I'll look into a fax to email service - thanks for the idea.

I use fax to email as well (http://utbox.net). Best thing I ever did. Now I can just delete all those faxes from MYOB (they're the only ones that ever spam me)

I just signed up for a trial account - very cool.

We hardly use faxes any more so this kind of service is ideal for those rare occasions when someone faxes us or we have to send a fax.

Thanks for the tip.

Re: Fax Spam

We just copped a fax spam this morning!

We only get one every few months, so it's not a major issue yet....but if it ever becomes an issue, we'll make the switch to fax-to-email.

Then again, whilst I'm not paying for paper, I doubt it will be an issue for a while

Thats because the "donotfax" site is owned by a marketing company that is faxing you...I used to receive a fax every few days I did some research and the do not fax number at the bottom traces back to the company advertising holidays etc...so when you enter your details in the do not fax section they confirm that the number must work, so now they have a 'live' fax machine.

Best bet throw away any spam faxs you receive, and they dry up in a short while.

Do your bit for the environment and keep them for scrap/note taking instead of throwing them away =)

Indeed that's what we do...either that or they go into the recycling bin if we're overloaded with notepads

Chop them into quarters, bind them up and you have a wonderful notepad for scribbling stuff down on ....or doodling if your bored, which never happens for most WHT-AU members I'm sure
