FYI Oz Servers clients!

Hey,

Just got word from Sean. They had a UPS failure that took down 3 racks + phone system. 95% of client servers are back online. If anyone is experiencing issues then please lodge a ticket and support queries will be answered in the order of which they are received.

Cheers!

I have a server down with them.

Can't get in contact either.

Can't access their own site..

Edit: seems to be back now.

Went down twice.

Re: FYI Oz Servers clients!

Our server has just gone down. It's been fine up until now, so perhaps they're still having problems.

The OzServers website also won't load up.

Yep, everything of theirs seems to be in their datacentre

Both of ozservers.com.au's nameservers are failing too.

Does anyone have an ozservers dedicated server that is up at the moment, or is the whole datacentre down?

Re: FYI Oz Servers clients!

Sean's just asked me to post this so please tell everyone else who you know has an Oz Servers server the following:

"We had a fire in the UPS room. The board containing our UPS bypass switch melted down. The fire brigade was called and they arrived in under 10 minutes and contained the damage to the external UPS bypass board. As a result we've had to switch off all power to the UPS systems which in turn powered down all the servers. We have replacement bypass switches and cabling on site and we've contacted our electricians who are en route and we expect resolution by approx 5 am Brisbane time. The earlier two outages were caused by this (one at 7:30 pm and another 9:30 pm). The UPS systems detected the issue and put themselves into shutdown mode each time. It was not until later in the evening that the true cause of the problem presented itself. We are sparing no expense or resource in trying to restore service as quickly as possible and we apologize for any inconveniences caused." Sean Finn - Oz Servers

Re: FYI Oz Servers clients!

I'd just like to quickly confirm the above statement, and thank kooby for posting it for me. We're back on the air.

Big thanks to the Stowe Electrical guys who got out of bed for this and attended straight away, and have only just left now at 4am after replacing the affected wiring.

The cause was a faulty External Bypass Switch (Allows us to take UPS's out of action) that decided to melt down, caused by harmonics on the neutral line. Think of voltage harmonics as a once in a hundred year tidal wave, if they all stack up nicely and at the same time, it makes things blow.

This is why the UPS tripped at 7:30 and two hours later at approx 9:30, causing meltdown.

Re: FYI Oz Servers clients!

Dear Sean, sorry to hear of your troubles, glade you got it all sorted so quickly, considering the nature of the problem. Can you disclose what brand bypass switch you are using ?

Regards James

Those bloody fires, always breaking out, you think ozservers might be able to control it better?

You can't be serious this is some sort of ridiculous incident that happens once every blue moon and you throw the towel in over that?

Unfortunately this sh*t happens, but i think you will find this happens to all hosts.

I have been with a lot of aussie hosts for my needs, and at some time they have all had issues...

The fact of how hard they worked to fix this issue, and how honest they where is the type of thing which would make me want to stay with a host. Instead of trying to blame it on someone else, and instead of waiting for the next morning, They fixed the it straight away. What else can you ask for?

And i no you would love a world where 'nothing' ever goes down, but it does.

Its type of thing that makes me wanna host with them.

Good luck Shortcut + team

I agree that OZServers did an excellent job of getting everything back to normal though I also do understand the frustration that might be for some clients with dedicated servers that they can take no more.

Just like everyone else we each have our clients and if they scream loud enough you have to make executives decisions... If they are for the better or worse thats a different story.

Hope you filled up the Stowe team with beers before they left Sean

Re: FYI Oz Servers clients!

Hey,

If clients scream... buy an ipod.

Unfortunately i think your seeing the negatives outta this situation instead of the positives.

Everyone gets downtime, and this was a freak incident, know one can stop things like this.

The support and huge effort put in two bring it back up was the things you look for in a host.
