Inner CBD DCs cost a fair bit, unless you own the physical building, the cost to rent a large amount of floor space is quite high.
Another DC to add to the Outer CBD list, Fujitsu in Melbourne.

Can you take a step back and do a bit of research before posting ANYTHING
Their DC is literally 5 minutes from the City Centre - due South

Hey,
Well considering every time i ASK shortcut or any of the boys they say either outter-east or outter-west i figured that wouldnt be in the cbd, and it depends how your defining 5 minutes, if your talking about in a car, or walking.
im pretty sure just because it is close, doesn't mean it is.
+ i dont really think there is really need to get hot about this, i wasn't saying there was anything wrong with this, just that i thought there location was not in the cbd.
Sounds like there east to me mate.
Can't really see why your so angry about this, was just saying some dc's i thought where not in the cbd, and im sorry but i would classify by the way that they talk about it as not in the cbd.
Cheers,
Chris

Ohh and to add my my 'trend' theres ipera in newcastle!, then again that could be in the cbd of newcastle, if it has one , still my point is that is isn't in the main city

It's technically in Newcastle West, which is a 5 minute drive from the CBD itself. Soul also have a facility, once again ~5 minutes out of the CBD. Not that I see the relevance here...

Do you confuse yourself at all Chris?
Yes Newcastle's CBD is in the main city, the city of Newcastle, the business district is widespread around this location but it's still close to the CBD.

Whatever Chris, I still don't call a handful of Datacenters a trend. I think it's more the fact that CBD floor space of the size required is scares and every expensive. Which is pushing providers out of the CBD. I don't think there building out away from the CBD because they feel like it.

mmm thought i could smell something
Just because someone gets forced to do something doesn't mean it can't be a trend
also come down to how you would define a trend i guess.
This thread is becoming OT, would be good to hear back from the OP.
Is there anything else you wish to no, or have you been scared away already?

The rent isn't the big issue, it's the physical constraints of multistory buildings.
The major issue is getting power to the building and, places to put aircon and generators, UPSes etc.
Multistory buildings quickly run out of carparks for generators and fuel, as well as riser space for getting power in and heat (aircon) out.
One of our DCs has run out of expandability before it's full because of no more riser space.
