Some interesting VMWare developments
|
|
http://itnews.com.au/News/88830,webc...-machines.aspx
Looks like WebCentral are getting in to the virtual world, on top of other Aussie hosting companies who are about to release similar product lines.
Is there really a market for this? Or will we see instant saturation?

I believe they have been doing this for a while, so not really anything new. There is definitely a market for this, I doubt we will see instant saturation.

Did they obtain some special licencing perms to use ESXi ?
I thought VMWare disallowed the use of ESXi for purposes such as this?
I may be wrong and feel free to correct me. I never followed ESXi too closely and was only just starting to play with it when I heard to story, so I stopped.
Cheers,
Dale

I'm sure they did, VMware has a hosting provider agreement which enables you to sell VMs.

Umm, 49 blade servers running virtualisation software makes the news, geez, must be a slow news week.

This is nothing new, This is one of the pitches for the Kenmore Datacenter. Having a large cluster of VM's. I'd say it's only in the news because it's attached to WebCentral and there size.
I didn't see that much attention when Digital sense said they where doing it. They got more coverage on there DC then there Cluster.
I would be interested seeing weather or not it does cause a flood in the market. Wouldn't surprise me if they price themselves out of the market.
Dunno what the go is with the ESX licensing, They probably just had to buy 1 copy of the full version for each bladecenter.
