Re: Webcity.com.au anyone?

I'm afraid I have to agree with Careergirls posts here after my own recent experience with Webcity.

The posts from Bennett whoever sum up the company and if he is the boss then it all makes sense as to why there support staff are so poorly trained in Customer service and communication.

After having no real problems with them for over a year I have had my hosting down for nearly 2 weeks due to a cockup at Webcitys end and have just decided to leave them as there seems to be no way they will bother to help me get them back up.

Now for me it doesn't matter so much that the sites went down as I know that mistakes happen, but the big problem I have is when the support people at the frontend basically blatantly don't care to bother trying to get your problem sorted and the untouchable techs in the backend never answer emails when you finally get a dialogue with them or answer in a vague manner so as to be worthless.

I have written an email of complaint and I find it no suprise that they have not even bothered to reply with an acknowledgement of my mail.

I would like to complain to a higher authority about them as I hate the fact that they can treat customers this way, but I suppose replying on here and hoping others don't sign up to the same gig is going to have to suffice.

All in all, Webcity are a good host if you never have to call support.

Hope that helps

Regards

You consider two weeks of downtime good?

Of course not. My statement should probably read more: that they are a good host as long as nothing gets changed.

In my scenario it went down after I'd asked them to upgrade my server and they messed something up (and offered no apology).

Biggest problem for me was that as a small business I'd sent out 3000 brochures the day before it went down so anyone deciding to check up on me online would have dismissed me immediately. so thats that money wasted really from the website point of view.

So, in short, I'm asking how is it that Webcity can offer such cheap prices in comparison to everybody else? And more importantly, with this company offering such good prices and feature-rich services, why is it that when I search this forum and the Australian Webhosting Directory their name doesn't come up once?

Am I missing something?
Hi Owen,

There are plenty of Australian hosts who provide good value and decent disk/bandwidth allocations. I haven't seen $35 per month for 1GB of data for a while now.

Look around in the offers section of WHT-AU, there are plenty of decent offers there which would suit your needs.

Re: Webcity.com.au anyone?

I have been with Webcity for 2 years, when it comes time to renew my plan I will be looking elsewhere.

I have asked webcity multiple times via email and telephone over the last 4 months to upgrade me from PHP4 to PHP5, also I'm on an old version mySQL. Webcity just give me a support ticket number and say they will do it, then they do nothing about it.

So I could not recommend Webcity for a production site as it has taken them 4 months to do nothing. I will be moving from Webcity.

Re: Webcity.com.au anyone?

I had a close friend who had his clan domain and hosting with webcity.
When he moved his hosting, webcity did not want to release the domain (on each request for the domain to be shutdown, they said "yea yea it will happen" and it never did). In the end the new host (netlogistics) got in contact with auda and they took care of it.

Be careful if they actually do the work as that's what I asked for and they did it the next week but messed it up completely (See above postings)

Caleb,
I don't believe you. Karthick asked for your details ad you didn't supply them. Others asked for your URL and you didn't supply them.

Normally I empathise with hosting clients that have been burnt, because I know it happens far too often. But seriously, if you can't supply or even PM, some of the details, how can I be expected to take you at your word?

So do I!!

But regardless, I don't particularly care whether or not anyone believes me, I wouldn't post an inflammatory statement about a company if it were not true as I have no reason to do so, I am not a rival hosting company but an end client and also I have already stated I have now jumped ship so its not as if I would be compensated by Webcity for my loss (not that they would be too concerned anyway).

I was thinking about Webcity, but decided I wont take any risks and stay with Jumba. Lucky this thread saved me.

Angry Re: Webcity.com.au anyone?

When I started with Webcity, all was fine. However, now their mail server has long duration timeouts using either KMail, Outlook or even their own webmail programs accessed from home or work. There are no unreasonable delays accessing the web pages on their system even when the mail has ground to a halt.

When I first contacted them, I had some difficulty getting acknowledgment that was actually a problem. Eventually there was acceptance that there was a problem and I was given a ticket number.

I got the obvious reason why I couldn't read my mail. "Lots of people are trying to read their mail". I said "Okay, but that is your problem, not mine. I pay you for access to mail and I'm not getting it."

I didn't get any feedback from the ticket, so I wrote again. I was told that Webmail was the problem and I should use POP.

Unfortunately, I want to access my mail at Internet cafes when I'm away so web access is important (even if Outlook actually did work all the time). If I wanted to risk losing mail access while I'm away, I would still be using the mail server on my home machine.

I asked for some indication of when this problem would be resolved, and that if it couldn't be resolved in a reasonable time, I wanted a refund of the balance of the my fee because they weren't providing what they advertised.

The response was that my 90day warranty period was up, so no possibility at all of a refund. I got the impression that the "help desk" thought that they only had to provide adequate service for 90 days and after that, they had no further obligation to provide anything at all!

If I can't get a sensible response from them soon, I guess it is a visit to the Office of Business and Consumer Affairs to see if they can get some more sense out of them.

I just want the damn email fixed so I don't keep coming home to "The email wasn't working all day AGAIN."
