Try these guys: http://www.bettertelecom.com.au/inbound.php
$0/mo and only 8c/min after first 20 for local calls, and 12c/min for national calls. MIN $5/mo spend.

Spirit do you 'own' the 1300 number you set up with them? Can you port away?
To the OP I would go with the 1300 option rather than 1800 not sure what it is, but a 1300 'seems' more professional. IMO.

You should own it, however best check with them. We're planning to use them for low volume inbound faxing so $5/mo min spend works well for us

Agreed - but 1800 will normally encourage callers to call in over sending an email which can get expensive. We use to have a 1800 number and we racked up $400-600/mo in inbound calls, compared to about $150/mo now with our 1300 number
That said we're paying 1 sixth the rate of what we were previous with our 1800 number.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing, about using it as an inbound fax.

Well i've just rung them and the person on the end of the phone did not know if I could take the number with me...they are going to call me back.
I like to have all my bases covered, whilst I may never transfer away you never know when a better deal comes along, plus would hate to advertise the number and then discover I don't get to keep it.

Found in their TOS http://www.bettertelecom.com.au/BT_T...ruary_2006.pdf
but then again, their TOS is dated 2006....might be worthwhile checking if there is an updated TOS.
Cheers,

If that's the case, you're better off to just leave the number as a dead number and just pay the $5 per month if you change your mind!

I'm going to investigate, but TasTel wholesale their landline services and 1300/1800 numbers from AAPT, and TasTel's prices for 1300 numbers seem cheaper than AAPT. Going to check them out.

Just as a follow up...they made contact TODAY, they said you can transfer away as the number is yours. You just have to contact them prior to porting/churning to another service provider. I am not interested now, I am contemplating another provider, but thought for others interest I would post.

Thats normal - you need them to create an account number at their wholesaler so you can port it so Telstra can update routing records for the number...
