distribute.IT vs tpp Internet
|
|
I'm setting up a WHMCS based services provider and am looking for a company to source my domains from (.au .com .net etc).
Both these companies have APIs which work with WHMCS.
Anyone have experience with these and which one would be the best for a small hosting company like mine?
Thanks

Having used both, DIT is much better in support and approval of new .au domains, for the extra few dollars a domain they are worth it.
TPP is slow, and take forever to issue refunds on rejected orders...

I've found TPP's support to be excellent and don't have trouble registering .com.au's unless I enter bad data.
Getting refunds for .com transfers that fail does take awhile, but I can live with that.
I love the fact that TPP assign you an account manager that you can talk to directly about any issues that you might have.
Having said all that I've heard nothing but good reports about Distribute.IT so I think you'll do well no matter which one you choose.

I also agree, TPP are excellent. My investigations have found that TPP are pretty much the most competitive reseller with APi access etc.
I use TPP with integration into WHMCS and as long as you send correct details to the registrar I have never had an issue.
E-mail Support can be a little slow but when they do reply the support has been fantastic.

Have a chat to Michael and redrack. He can hook you up with an API with Bottle Domains and arrange better pricing then TPP or DIT.

Hi,
Excuse my newbness but I don't see an option for bottle domains in WHMCS. The only aussie providers I see are the two aformentioned and planetdomain. Also the prices on bottle's web page are a bit scary.

Thanks for the helpfull responses guys. I'm sure both prividers would be ok but tpp have not responded to my support email in 6 days and counting whereas dit was very fast so I guess I'll go with them.
One final question is that in the dit setup in WHMCS it asks to specify (optionally) credit card info (crd num exp date etc). Is this info passed with every transaction made by WHMCS? I'd prefer not to have to store this information... how does it all work?
And can I get private nameservers on dit? like ns1.mydomain.com? I guess I need my host to provide me with 2 dedicated IP addresses?
Thanks

This should not be a problem if they are hosting your DNS entries as well as doing your domain registration.
You would just need to create 2 'CNAME' records that point to ns1.distributeit.com.au and ns2.distributeit.com.au or 2 "A" name records that resolve to 203.113.228.11 and 203.113.228.65 or similar.

I mean I don't want ns1.distributeit.com.au. I want ns1.mydomain.com.au. How is it normally done. I want my customers to enter ns1.mydomain.com.au in their setups.

Your newbness is excused.
There is no official Bottle Domains module for WHMCS, that's why I suggested you contact Michael as he has built several for customers (like us) ranging from a full blown domain system to a simple module.
Bottle's standard prices are high, however Michael has the ability to buy from them on behalf of you at a very good price, cheaper than DIT's current reseller price which is $27 from last check.

The credit card info is used to pay for the domain via our API. however, you can DD funds into your reseller account if you prefer.
Private nameservers are no problem. Just email our support guys who can assist with the set-up

Thanks for clearing that up. I sent your support an email with a few additional questions.
Thanks

You would need to set-up your own DNS server on a Dedicated Server or put your own box into co-location to serve your clients DNS entires.
Alternatively could get a third party provider such as DIT to manage the DNS for your clients and per my previous post create a DNS entry on your domain that resolved to the Distribute IT DNS servers.
