AU-located backup space ?

I'm looking for recommendations for backup space- not a full web server or anything like that. I just need 100Gb of file space located here in Australia (Brisbane ideally) where I can backup my US-based servers so that I have a "local" backup. I would like to either sFTP or RSync into this backup space. I've contacted several hosting providers that do web hosting, but they only provide backup space for their own web hosting customers. I don't need web hosting - I just need file space that I can sFTP/RSync into. I thought this would be a commodity that would be easily and cheaply obtained, but maybe I'm looking in the wrong places - any recommendations ?
cheers,
Darcy

Re: AU-located backup space ?

how much bandwidth would you need with that?

If you're backing up 100GB of data, and doing regular backups from the US, that could chew through some significant data.

Re: AU-located backup space ?

some addition background info - I run nightly incremental backups via RSync - the nightly bandwidth would be about 10Gig or so at present (so about 300Gb/month should cover it).

That'll be at least $330 in data alone....

Talk to AussieHQ - they do this sort of thing.

We lost an account to them a while back doing exactly this.

Re: AU-located backup space ?

thanks for all the info - it's looking a lot more expensive that I had hoped (due to bandwidth charges) - so it's on the backburner until I can afford it

Re: AU-located backup space ?

Why not host this in the US? You don't need it locally (unless the filesizes are enormous and you want to be able to burn them to DVD, but then you're probably doing the wrong sort of backup!).

Agreed, this is what we would do. This is no point paying high fees on bandwidth on both the sending and receiving end. May as well backup to the US, or somewhere else where bandwidth is a little cheaper.

Re: AU-located backup space ?

I already have US-based backup space - I was just looking for more redundancy and so was considering AU-based backup space. Anyway, turns out the bandwidth costs are teh killer, so I'm sitting tight for the moment.

Re: AU-located backup space ?

Dale

As he has just said it is not the space that is the issue it is the Band width

Darcyc as was previously mentioned because your servers are in the US it is really overkill to backup to AUS you are far better looking at a NAS backup in your current Data Centre or in another US one which will be more than enough security

If you need any help with organising that please just give me a shout or we can set it up for you in one of the DC's we use in the US

A PM here is the best way to get me

Cheers
Angus
