Sure, child pornography is an issue in todays world, but going as far as that, then a legal suit??

Personally I don't think that cartoons are people, but I do think that it's probably more to do with the fact that the cartons depicted children rather than adults.

So Dale, if say, 10y.o children are drawn as cartoons and depicted having sex - that would sit well with you?

The hysteria about child porn has got so ridiculous, no-one even dare take a picture of their naked baby on a bunny rug anymore. It's starting to smell like a witch-hunt where anything that can be bent into child porn is, to up the conviction rate and make someone look good, or make it appear that the issue is being addressed. Frankly, it's doing nothing but trivialising the issue.

After all, the real rock spiders never bloody stop getting away with it time and again.

As Donna said, it's doing nothing but trivialising the issue and making someone look good and yet the real criminals who are actually committing acts of child porn are getting away with it.

As far as I'm concerned, if they put their resources into catching the real criminals instead of people who drawn cartoons, maybe they might actually get somewhere.

Your question is frankly insulting and not worth a response. It's exactly these kind of glib trivialisations and veiled accusations that I am talking about - they don't address the real issue.

That statement seperates the seriousness between real pictures and cartoons. Do you find one less offensive than the other? Or are they both on the same level?

I don't think I need to justify any of my statements to you.

The whole idea of this is stating that cartoons are NOT people.

I never said anything about it being/not being offensive, nor do I wish to speculate further on the matter.

I never said it was right, I never said it was wrong either.

Cartoons are cartoons, not people. It is hardly worth spending time chasing people over drawings. They are not real life!

Sure, they may be images that may depict something of real life, but they are not real life, therefore, should not be of a major concern in comparsion to that of real life.

If you take cartoons seriously, then that's your choice in itself but I'm sure many will agree that they would prefer authorities spending time wiser by chasing/catching the real criminals, the one's that actually commit child sex acts, not those who depict it in images.

I don't know, Andrew may have a point. After all half the Islamic world wanted to kill a Dutch cartoonist for drawing a picture of Mohamed.

You might like to think that you don't have to justify your comments Dale, but the whole point of having a discussion about something is validating your opinion based on a belief or evidence - or am I just being pedantic again?

I understand that cartoons aren't people, I'm not disagreeing with that. What I'm disagreeing with, is that people are disregarding that just because the objects depicting child pornography are cartoons instead of humans, which somehow makes it better.

They are chasing people over what they are creating. Just because it's not a photograph or video, in my opinion, doesn't make it any less offensive. Just because you've drawn it and not photographed it, doesn't make it any less offensive.

Why don't we keep the comparisons on the same level I don't think the Mohamed incident is a subject that can be transparently compared to this topic.
