Question about MYOB & Terminal Services
|
|
Hi Guys
I now own a small business which does Ink Refills sells ink and toner carts, printers, photo copying, laminating, computer repairs, computer upgrades etc.
Now I am looking at putting in a Windows 2000 or Windows 2003 Server that will keep all our files in one central location.
Currently at the moment one computer has MYOB Accounting Plus Version 12. At the current time one person uses it at a time, but as its on my pc nobody can access it unless I am away from my pc.
Will MYOB Accounting Plus Version 12 work on Terminal Services / Remote Desktop.
Also we use MYOB Retail Manager for our POS System, Now also we want to know if MYOB Retail Manager will work on Terminal Services / Remote Desktop so its easier for us to Export the data from Retail Manager to MYOB Accounting Plus and also alot easier for a backup procedures.
Can both of these programs be run on Terminal Services / Remote Desktop.

Sure they'll run - but I belive you can only run one version of the program at once (licence and tech reasons)...

As Spirit said you are breaching the license agreement. Accounting Plus is described as follows:
"MYOB Accounting Plus is the ideal single-user business management and accounting solution for small employers. "
If you want a multiuser version you need to look at MYOB Premier Enterprise
"Developed and tested for use on networks running Windows Serverâ„¢ 2003 in a Terminal Services environment"

My company's looking at upgrading to MYOB Premier Enterprise, does anyone know if this will run on a Window 2k Server or does it *need* to be Window 2k3 Server? MYOB have only tested it on 2003, but am hoping someone out may have some experience with this

Is that different to Premium? - my accountant runs premium on a W2K machine.

It is possible to run Myob Retail Manager on Terminal Server. It requires a special setup, we often use RDPlus instead MS Terminal Server. Setting it up in a Remote Desktop environment MYOB Retail Manger will become significantly faster and more stable, also accessible remotely.
check out rdplus [ http://rdplus.com.au] for more info on Terminal Services solutions and MYOB retail manager

Yes but new info may help others. I often search threads for solutions and find the relevant questions without answers. I just thought this may help someone...

And since it's grave dug, yes you can run MYOB Accounting Plus via TS on 2k3. POS is also possible as previously noted but licensing rules are different. Since TS means multiple devices to one installation this is a bit murky.

It seem to hang there pretty well. If you referring to the SQL version, it will not happen tomorrow. Changing to SQL too quickly is what has put a few nails into QBooks' coffin. I don't beleive it will be gone soon but it is suffering big time.
By the way, have you done MYOB Retail Manager on Terminal Server? with multiple users to one shopfront? I didn't think many would know how to do that....

Since licensing is concerned with number of users vs number of licenses it makes no difference to them, especially with MYOB Premier and Accounting as both controls the user access restrictions

There's an SQL version to Accounting Plus? Truth is I've got a really competent bunch of Windows guys that figure that stuff out, I just know we have it running on our TS platform since we migrated away from desktops about 2 years ago and it was an annoying roadblock.

Umm, no I haven't. We had Retail Manager in play for a smaller businesses setup (one of the bosses side projects). Don't think we had more than 1 or 2 concurrents though and even then they each ran it with their own profile.

Like I said above my knowledge in this is a bit broad but yeah my understanding is that Premier/Accounting work fine because the licensing is enforced on a per named user basis (ie. they provide their username/password on startup). POS though is a non per named user basis (presumably cause the receipts are issued to all and sundry not specific people) so while it might work I just don't know if it's 'legal' per se.

Re: Question about MYOB & Terminal Services

As far as I am concerned as long as one has the right number of licenses for Retail Manager it doesn't matter if it is running on RDplus, Terminal server or just on a simple network session.
If one paid the "royalty" to MYOB I don't think they would be greatly concerned. Have the right number of licenses and you should be safe.
Regards, T.
By the way the RDPlus guys offer help specificly with Retail Manager setting it up for Terminal Services mode. It is somewhere on their site RDplus - Remote Desktop Technology
