Re: Nagios error in the links
    And did you do this:

    1. Verify configuration options using the -v command-line option to check for errors.
    2. Check the Nagios log file for messages relating to startup or status data errors.
    3. Make sure you've compiled the main program and the CGIs to use the same object data storage options (i.e. default text file or template-based file).

Make sure you read the documentation on installing, configuring and running Nagios thoroughly before continuing. If all else fails, try sending a message to one of the mailing lists. More information can be found at http://www.nagios.org.
    Provide more information.

THis is what i get :
    [root@kiwi bin]# /usr/local/nagios/bin/nagios -v /usr/local/nagios/etc/nagios.cfg

Error in configuration file '/usr/local/nagios/etc/nagios.cfg' - Line 868 (UNKNOWN VARIABLE)

***> One or more problems was encountered while processing the config files...

Check your configuration file(s) to ensure that they contain valid
directives and data defintions. If you are upgrading from a previous
version of Nagios, you should be aware that some variables/definitions
may have been removed or modified in this version. Make sure to read
the HTML documentation regarding the config files, as well as the
'Whats New' section to find out what has changed.

This is new installation (Version 2.0b1). Thanks for ur efforts, do u have any MSN / yahoo id ?

    Hi Markwaugh,

Can you open up nagios.cfg and go to Line 868 and output what is on that line.

    Hi Markwaugh,

Remove the max_embedded_perl_calls line. It's not a valid variable in
    Nagios 2.

Re: Nagios error in the links
    ok, removed the max_embedded_perl_calls entry.

    now /usr/local/nagios/bin/nagios -v /usr/local/nagios/etc/nagios.cfg gives

    Reading configuration data...

Error: Invalid hostgroup object directive 'contact_groups'.
Error: Could not add object property in file '/usr/local/nagios/etc/hostgroups.cfg' on line 4.

I have this entry in hostgroups.cfg

    define hostgroup{
    hostgroup_name flcd-servers
    members example.com
    members 10.10.22.220
    }

    Hi Mark,

You have not setup your hostgroup properly.

Have you read the manual at all?

That's why I gave up Chris.

Clearly he hasn't read the entire manual back to front and also hasn't consulted anyone of a number of support resources available. Instead, he's come to WHTAU and posted [yet ANOTHER] thread requesting help and expecting people to stop what they are doing and help him free of charge.

Mark, unless you're paying something mate, you have to put more effort into working out your own problems. We'll give you pointers but we won't just hand you solutions on a silver platter.
