    Smile Internet Radio Hosting
Hi, I am looking for the host to run my internet radio on windows media server or shoutcast server. For begining we will start with 100 concurrent listners which will grow gradually.

My 90% of listeners are in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. I have very good offer from US and UK hosts. But one of my fren suggested me that Its better to host in Australia because most of my listners are in here. Is it true? Will it be more affordable here?

I am planning to buy SAM Broadcaster so we need to install that on the server too. so It will be great if we can have remote access to server.

We will start the radio from March.

    thanks in advance.

In my opinion, yes i would go with an Australian server if all your listeners are located in Australia. You wont get BW prices as cheap as the US but you will be paying for quality and response time back to your listeners.

    Dear deepesh

We are currently doing streaming for a local Melbourne radio station 3mbs, they use a dedicated shoutcast server to support 400+ concurrent connections in both 64k and 128k streams.
I’ve also had years of experience streaming radio for HitzFM, CityFM, KissFM and a bunch of community ratio stations over the years.

You should also contact every ADSL ISP and see if they can relay your media stream to their customers, (most ISP will do this as they want content to provide to their members) this can cut down greatly on bandwidth costs due to peering arrangements.
If you would like to talk more about a streaming solution and or need advise please feel free to contact me.

    Kindest Regards

We can provide you with such a service, all of our servers can have windows media centre or any windows/linux OS installed on them. Our network also has the capabilities to handle such a service.

Let me know if you are interested in any of our services or email me direct at admin@burstnetworks.com.au

    Hi Deepesh,

Since you will be streaming, the main problem you face hosting in Aus will be the price of bandwidth.

I have 3 questions.. this should help to determine if AU based hosting will be in your budget

Whats your approx monthly budget ?
Will the 100 concurrent listners be 24x7 or will they be peak and offer peak time?
What rate will you be streaming at ?

    John

    Dear John,
I have no idea about australian hosting so we are getting lots of quotation so we can decide on the budget. Normally US hosts charge 1USD for 1 user on 96k ( unlimited bandwidth). we are planning to stream on 96k and later on multiple bitrates. In initial phase we will have 3 hrs of live programing every evening. So, I guess we will have more lisnters in the evening.

    Any suggestions??

    Thanks in advance

I forgot to write something as we are targeting just australia so if we host it here, we might do peering with australian ISPs and save some money on bandwidth.

If you want to get up and running asap and do it cheaply, host it in the US. I listen to a few US radio stations, and 64/96/128kbps streaming is fine. There's no lag, it's not like you're stopping/starting all the time.

In my opinion, a US hosted radio station would be fine. The only thing you can't do is peer with local ISPs.

Someone was offering 2TB's in Brisbane at a very reasonable price late last year. Could be worth your while searching the forum for them and see if the offer is still available.
